'Tis lonely here in prison,
I dream of sun, of fields,
I saw them from a window once,
but I don't know how they feel.

I've never known a caress,
a friend, a bone, a toy,
I'd happily companion,
a human girl or boy.

But some men have decided,
with selfishness and greed,
that my fate shall be a cage,
and for my keep, I'll breed.

What should fuel this folly?
My kind may bark in vain.
We care not for your commerce,
and few know of our pain.

We're hidden well from justice,
for our freedom some may cry.
God grant me, please, just one request -
Let me play once before I die.

The Story of Freckles......

When I first brought Freckles home her tail was plastered to her butt. If I picked it up, the tail slammed back down like it was on a spring. Freckles vibrated in fear more times than I can count. Thunder, car engines and other dogs all made her tremble. Her hind legs were so weak from living in a cage for seven years that she could not walk far, or jump on the couch or go up and down steps...............continued....

Remember the tragic story of an Australian Red Heeler mom and her 9 puppies shot by Amish dog breeders in Wayne County, N.Y. just because the puppies were too old to be sold?  This story naively revealed how the Amish get rid of their unwanted mill dogs.  Not knowing this was blatant animal cruelty, one breeder said that this was the way Amish do it all the time and none of them thought there was anything wrong with it.  To them it's called the "3-S" solution-- code to them meaning "shoot, shovel, and shut-up".

Well, two of them got their sentence last week...a 30 day jail sentence and a $500 dollar fine and neither can own dogs for 15 years. Like that's ever going to happen.

A more than heartrending commentary comes from Charles Louis all the way from Philadelphia:
"What kind of monsters are these puppy mill breeders anyway? The mother dogs spend their entire lives in wire cages, and puppies are sold to pet stores with fake papers and so many genetic problems because they are bred over and over again with the same physical and emotional defects. My first puppy who came from a pet store and a puppy mill was a German shepherd whose legs and hips gave out before he was even a year old. I spent thousands and thousands of dollars on Duke to help him get through life comfortably. These are the kind of men breeding dogs."
