A Tribute to Bubba AKA JJ  Home at Last.

Our Bubbalouie survived twelve years in a horrid mill to finally be rescued by two angels named Cindy and Donna. Another angel, Jackie, helped to transport this special survivor from NC to TX to his special foster Mom and Dad. He was such a mess when he arrived. His coat was like straw, his skin just flaked off, he had only one horribly infected tooth left in his mouth; he was blind in one eye (due to trauma); he had a deformed back paw; he had two luxating patellas that never stayed in place; he had terrible health problems and in addition to everything else he was heart worm positive. The first week, Bubba (JJ) was scared of his own shadow, but he loved the beds that surrounded his new home. He would go from one to the other to another until he had checked out each and every one of them. By the second week, he became the most loving, affectionate little fella you could ever want to have around.

It took six months and lots of loving care and vet work to get him to the point where we could finally take a chance of treating his heartworms to help him to survive. His health had increased and he was getting better by the day until he started coughing and going downhill due to the heartworm infestation. It was decided at that time to take a chance and get him treatment. He received his first treatment in July 2004 and did well, his next treatment was in August 2004 and again he did well. In November, he actually started playing consistently and actually begging for treats and really, really enjoying himself. He was getting better and better and we were planning on getting him neutered next month and doing the final bloodwork for heartworms and expecting to get a negative this time. Bubba was healthy and happy and carefree for the first time in his entire life and we were looking forward to having him around for several more years at least. But, fate took over and, Sunday night, November 21, he started coughing a little bit. Nothing to be concerned about because he was playing and eating and all was well. No big deal. His coughing spasms had happened before and we fixed them with a bit of Prednisone for a week. We went to bed and were awakened at 2:00 am with a rasping breathing. I took him outside and he just stood there. I brought him back in and was trying to get him in a position where he could breathe more easily when he let out a blood curdling cry of pain and his entire body went limp. I gently laid him down on the rug and screamed for Dick. We threw on our clothes and sped toward the nearest ER, but Bubba died in my lap on the way. This little guy deserved so much more time after all he had been through, but it wasn't meant to be. Bubba was a very special borrowed angel, who was loved unconditionally for the last ten months of his life. At least he knew love and caring. Some mill babies never get that far. My vet determined that Bubba died from a pulmonary embolism, probably caused from one of the many traumas he had suffered in his life. There was nothing we could have done, nor he could have done to help him. The only comfort we have is the fact that Bubba did not suffer and he went quickly.

Here is my precious little foster Bubba (JJ) just a week and a half before he went to the Bridge. Just look how happy and healthy he had become. Even though Bubba (JJ) never got his official "forever home", we feel he picked out home out from day one as is "forever home". Here is where Bubba will always stay in our hearts and our home. His spirit will live forever here at the Pom Palace.

Guess he was always at his "forever home" we just didn't realize it.
