It is with sincere sadness and a
broken heart that I write this email. We believe Roxie is not longer
with us and has gone on to the Bridge. This little girl was
laying on the side of Rt. 85 and had been hit by a vehicle. It looks
like she died instantly, she was very badly injured.
Around four today I received a call from a woman, Jessica, we met at the
rest stop who does transports from south of Dinwiddie to Richmond. She
was doing a transport and saw a small red animal on the side of the
road. She could not stop while going to Richmond because she has dogs to
transport and and a time table but she said she would check it out on
the way back. I called Michael and Tracey and asked them if they could
possibly check to see if it was Roxie. They headed over there
immediately. About an hour later Jessica called me and said she was back
at the sight of the dog and she believed it to be Roxie. I told her
Michael and Tracey were on their way so she said she would wait for them
to arrive.
I got the call back shortly after that, Michael and Tracey were there
and they were fairly certain it was Roxie. Michael got a cooler and they
put her in it and took her home. I sent more detailed pictures to
Jessica and Tracey to help identify her. I have asked Michael and Tracey
to take pictures and send them to me to ease my anguish of knowing for
certain it is Roxie. I have received a pic from Doris but I am not able
to be certain if it is Roxie. There is a good chance I will drive to VA.
tomorrow to ease my mind that it is Roxie. I will know more in the
morning when my emotions settle a bit. I had hoped I would be able to
identify her by the photos but the one I received is not very clear and
I would like to be sure.
It is my worst nightmare that this would happen. That poor little girl
only had four days to know how much I loved her and people really cared
about her. The only consolation I have in this is that the three puppies
we brought back from VA are alive and well. They certainly would have
died in that yard had we not been down there looking for Faith and
Roxie. I am praying very hard that we find Faith alive and well.
Please pray Faith is safe! Remember sweet little Roxie.

Updated Monday and Tuesday
This weekend seven or eight
volunteers of "A Tail to Tell" were down in Dinwiddie. They canvassed
homes, they had dirt bikes and rode the wood trails, the put up more
fliers and passed out fliers at the churches. Monday, Cindy M went down
to continue to canvass an area a bit farther out. She went door to door
in the area the Animal communicator felt the dogs were in. She put up
more fliers, met a surveying crew that was working in the area and
handed them fliers. Tomorrow she will work an area up from the rest area
on the other side. She has been back most of the country roads that lead
back to many houses in the woods. This woman has moxy, she is determined
to get the word out and find our dogs. If anyone is interested in
helping with the search please contact Cindy, she is our contact person
in charge down there.
On Sunday, the BYB that gave us Cher, Sonny and Simba surrendered 23
more dogs. They were taken to PA to a couple of different rescues. I
just got word tonight that three of the cockers have mange in addition
to all of the parasites, etc. She was not sure what type it is.
Update on Sonny & Cher.
Sonny was not doing well today. There is a possibility that he may have
to have a plasma transfusion. Tonight will tell. I am un-nerved by the
rapid deterioration of his heath. Fortunately he is in the hospital
where they are taking great care of him.
I brought Cher home today. She has a number of medicines she is on. She
did vomit on the way home, which was not good but I think it might have
been the car ride. I will keep a close eye on her tonight. She is not
out of the wood yet but she is much better.
These two will have to be quarantined for at least 21 days and possibly
more. Please keep them and my pups in your prayers that all stay
healthy.
Thank you all for your kind words and support.

Updates
Saturday and Sunday.
Hello everyone,
Well, I am back from VA. I am sorry to say that we have not YET located
Faith nor Roxy. But, I did manage to make up more flyers-and it shows
the reward amount. Bonnie was there, as were Cindy Meyers and my friend
Jo and I. They asked me to make up something that we could hand out to
people, like about index card size. So Jo and I were able to get them
made once I got to Jo's house (she is in Fredericksburg, about 1 1/2-2
hours north of Dinwiddie). I think these "cards" are an excellent idea.
They are small enough for folks to carry with them and/or hang on their
fridge. The very first thing it says, in big bold red letters is
$1,000.00 REWARD! so that should scathe eyes! Then it went on to say $500
each dog and it has a picture and brief description of both dogs. Then
it has Bonnie, Cindy and animal control officer (ACO) Alvin's phone
number and says call anytime day or night. While at the rest stop, we
met a lady that said she can help check traps (a vet tech I think). We
drove the highways and back roads...holding our breath, and relived to
find no sight of the girls there. There really is tons of woods! It's a
lot of underbrush, but we carried sticks and moved things around and
looked in all the logs, culverts, holes etc. we carried wet cat food and
wet dog food and dog treats and cooked chicken. We walked & walked and
then walked some more. We stopped at every house on those back roads and
spoke to folks and we posted flyers everywhere including school &
library in near-by "town". There was already stuff up from the ladies
that looked earlier in the week as well. Flyers/cards were handed out to
everyone, including road maintenance workers and lawn care workers. I
just know that, with so many folks knowing we are looking, and with the
money there to entice them, we are going to have those babies back! Even
if someone has taken them in thinking they are stray-it won't be long
before they see or hear that we are looking for them and we are offering
a reward. I know everyone here has been checking the shelters and
rescues to be sure no one has seen them/turned them in. That is a great
help! Tracey's husband (PMR Freckles and Teddi's parents) is out there
checking the traps daily. I believe we have managed to trap 2 cats and
one something else-can't remember, racoon or something-but at least we
know that that means the traps are working and the food in them is
enticing. We posted on dumpsters, as we were thinking that the girls may
rest up during the day, then go to dumpsters for food at night. We did
the same at the local dump, and we even stayed there a little bit to
talk to folks that came there to dump their trash. it is a small place,
like only 3 or 4 small dumpsters, but it could be a food source and it
is a place a lot of those folks probably come to so they will see the
posters (someone, I forgot who-although I remember seeing the
post-someone at some bodies work donated them I think) anyway, someone
actually had the posters laminated, so we know they will hold up in the
weather. There are some small ravines in the woods that have water in
them, so we are sure the girls will be smelling the water. A lot of the
folks out in those back woods have dogs. We are thinking that, normally
when their dogs bark, they don't pay much mind to it because the dog's
probably barking at a deer...but...now that they know about the dogs,
they may pay closer attention. Whew-hang on-i don't know how long yahoo
allows an email to be, so I'll hit send and continue on another
email...Ruth
Ladies:
Sunday
Yesterday I returned from Virginia. I am sorry to say without out little
girls, Roxie and Faith. We put up signs, passed out flyers, we were on
the local news, put ads in the newspaper, had a tracker with a dog, used
"Find Toto", set live traps, contacted the shelters and local humane
officer and anything and everything we could think of. We talked to
everyone we saw. We searched the woods and trails all around the rest
area. The ticks were unbelieveable. We were picking them off of us for
days.
There is another group going down tonight and will be there through the
weekend. Cindy Meyers will stay down there all next week to coordinate
things, check sitings and canvass the area. The group going down this
weekend will canvass areas we were not able to get to and do a grid
search of the woods. Keep those prayers coming because those little lost
girls definitely need them. This area is a very large rural area.
The people down there have been very kind and helpful. Some of the local
people went through the wood paths with their ATVs. The one sighting we
had of Roxie the people who spotted her let us put a live trap on their
property and they checked it for us. Everyone we talked to was very
friendly and supportive.
While we were down there when we were canvassing homes we came upon a
BYB/puppymill. The front yard was high with weeds, in one corner was a
sectioned off very muddy area with two cocker spaniels. In another
sectioned off corner were three puppies. Running around the yard was a
extremely thin poodle, cocker puppy and a little black dog of some sort.
Two of our members (Jo and Cindy) went up to the house while Ruthie and
I stayed at the car. The woman claimed to be a rescue but they have a
number of litters of puppies in the house and the neighbors told us they
sell the puppies. Jo and Cindy told her we were rescue and looking for
two dogs and asked if we could help with her dogs. Jo and Cindy told her
about the dead puppy in the section with the other three puppies, she
said she hadn't seen it. One of the three other puppies was very sick,
Jo and Cindy asked the woman if we could have the sick puppy but she
said she would take it in the house. She said she couldn't give it away,
it was too young. In talking with the family Jo and Cindy found out they
were being evicted from their house. The woman told Cindy she could have
all the dogs in the yard and some in the house but she couldn't take the
puppies in the yard yet. Cindy made arrangements with the woman to come
back on Sunday to get the dogs. After we left the woman called us back
and said we could come get the sick puppy and the other two in the yard
and she had decided to give Cindy more of her other dogs in the house.
Jo and Ruthie went and picked up the puppies. Cindy and I took the sick
puppy back to our hotel and Ruthie and Joe took the other two to Jo's
house. They would take them to the vet in the morning to be wormed and
get their first puppy vaccines. Thank you so much Ruthie and Jo!!
The two puppies are now going to be fostered by our new fostermom,
Nicole. Thank you so much Nicole for agreeing to take these precious
little ones. I had to name them to take them to the vet so I called them
"Sonny" and "Cher". We are told they are pom mix puppies. It looks like
they are mixed with beagle. They are very thin and very full of worms.
They were treated at Jo's vet and tomorrow they will go to my vet to be
tested for heartworms, tick borne illnesses and wormed again. Sonny is
doing well but poor little Cher is not feeling well this evening, she
will see the vet first thing tomorrow morning. I am attaching some pics
of them.
When I think about the course of events that happened from last Saturday
afternoon until yesterday I have to say it has been a very emotional
roller coaster. I still have hope that we will find Roxie and Faith and
bring them home safely. My one thought in all of this is that had it not
been for the search for these girls we would not have found the BYB/puppymill
and the dogs in that house would have probably died. There are 29 dogs
that will be free on Sunday and headed back to PA. The family has very
little so you can imagine what the dogs got. They were starving and
being eaten by parasites. Cindy and I fully believe she would have left
them there when she was evicted or turned them loose in the woods. She
told Cindy that she was an answer to her prayers. The woman said she had
no where to go with the dogs.
The sick puppy that Cindy took with her was taken to her emergency vet.
She had to have a transfusion she was so very anemic from all the
parasites. She is still in the hospital and we do not yet know if she
will make it. Cindy has called her Simba. She is about half the weight
of the other two and they are all from the same litter.
There is so much more that happened and later I will take time to write
about it. I would like to thank PMR for all the support they gave us.
The PMR board members have been there for us and helped so much. Jeanie
and Joe drove 10 hours in from Kentucky to help in the search. I would
like to thank all the members of "A Tail to Tell" for all the help. The
prayers and the ideas you all sent were received and appreciated. Thank
you to all the people that came and helped. Thank you to all of you who
made calls the rescues and shelters, etc. We will continue to search and
hope to get sightings. When we have a number of sightings and have them
triangulated we will be able to again bring in tracker dogs to see if we
can capture them. Please everyone keep up the prayers these precious
girls are home soon.
THANK YOU!!
(Thank you all who emailed me with your support and kind words, it meant
a lot to me)

Updates Wednesday
Anyone have a LAPTOP we
can use for a couple of weeks ??
It would be of great benefit if the gals in Dinwiddie had a laptop. It
is imperative they have access to a blog I am in the process of setting
up, which will shows a map of the area and where I will log in the time,
date, and location of each sighting of each dog. It would also be helpful
so they are able to access other information when they are out during
the day.
If anyone is willing to allow them to use their laptop, please email me
at
mylilluvboo@yahoo.com
Tracy called me and she is down there now putting up fliers for the
missing dogs. Her dear friend at work, Chip Pletcher donated 100 fliers
Last Sunday we hired a
professional Tracker with her Two dogs a Sheppard Dog and a Beagle,
sadly they were not successful.
Ruthie left last night, it will take her 5 hours to drive to Dinwiddy
She is bringing supplies and should be joining in the search this
morning.
I spoke with Cindy Meyers a little bit ago and there
has been a sighting on the Pom.
The sighting was on the
other side of the freeway, from the sighting the other day. It would be
a stretch to think the Pom made it from where she was spotted in the
garden to the other side of the freeway, but anything is possible. They
were looking for her at 11:00 tonight and will resume the same spot
tomorrow along with posters in the area.
I know that us who really know the mill dogs, we all know the gravity of
what is going on here. We are lucky that so many rescues and people are
coming to our aid. These dogs need people that care and people that are
willing to put aside what is going on in their lives, to help find them.
Like Bonnie and Cindy and Jeanie and Joe Ruthie.
Please God, Please allow these poor dogs to come home to Puppymillrescue
They have done nothing to deserve what is happening to them right now.
Please let them experience the kind of life they should have had since
the day they were born. Thank you. Cindy
Protect yourself from the ticks
in the woods, please purchase bug spray with "DEET" and spray yourself
well. Please read this website all about TICKS.
Tick identification is important.
Stay informed and safe.
Channel 8 News in VA has been playing the story on the missing dog and
the reason why they are repeating the story is because people are
calling the news station asking if the dogs were found.
We have to keep the enthusiasm and interest up until we find these
girls. Could everyone please call the news station once a day for a few
days and ask
if they have any news on the dogs. Hopefully they will keep airing the
segment
The newsroom phone number
is 804-330-8813
Updates Tuesday
5pm We just had a mass
Phone Call Out via FindToto.com
They sent out 2,100 phone calls and messages within a 6 mile radius of
where Roxy was last sighted.
We called Helioair
804-226-3400. Seems to be in the Richmond area. It costs ...$895.00 for
20 minutes time. She said the likelihood is slim that they could ever
see Roxie and actually not Faith either as she said if there is dense
brush (which there is a lot of) they cannot get close enough to see
anything.
A very special thank you to
those that donated. ( see bottom of the page )
Your donations have been used for Find Toto, the
posters,
order the search and rescue dogs, and paid for Motel expenses, gas, food
and the Reward Fund.
There was a sighting of
Roxy the Pom. She was curled up in a ball at someone's garden
edge. Four of our volunteers are in the area or in the area laying out
new traps with bait.
Thank you to, for their
email support.

Monday I just got this from Virginia DOT -
posters have been put up and DOT people are doing the best they can. If
I hear more I will let you know. Boy, have these good people acted fast.
They are the BEST!!!! Hope all of this helps.
I am Dale Goodman, Residency
Administrator for the Virginia Department of Transportation. We have
notified our contractor and sub-contractor concerning the lost puppies
at the Dinwiddie Rest Areas. They have placed the posters in various
locations around both the north and south bound lane rest areas. Our
custodians have been made aware of the situation. I hope that this will
prove to be fruitful and the puppies are found. I do not know of
anything else we can do.

Sunday
I just spoke to Bonnie. Doris, . Kristy, Bonnie, Tom, Cindy Myers and 3
of her coworkers, an animal control officer and another person are
there. Jeanie and Joe are still on their way and Marty S is on her way
down. Tracy was there but had to go home.
Kristy has seen the Faith the Schnauzer 2 times. There has been no
sighting of Roxy yet. Some of the people who live in the area are taking
their 4wheelers out in the morning.
Cindy M contacted someone who has a tracking dog. she is trying to
contact someone more local as she is 4 hrs away. If she cannot find
another she will come down but we will have to cover the cost of gas,
tolls and time or something to that effect.
Bonnie reminded me that Roxy hates grass so she may be curled up in one
place hiding.
She also said that everyone is bug bitten and full of ticks.
Bonnie asked everyone to call in all favors and pray as hard as they
can.
If anything happens overnight she will call me and I will get online and
post. |
