The origin of Puppymillrescue

Puppymillrescue was founded in May 1999.

It was formed  because I felt there was a desperate need to have an organization to help the puppymill dogs get out of Missouri and escape what had been their fate for many years, death and worse!.

To my dismay, I discovered that most of the dog breed clubs would not help to support the rescue of mill dogs. I began by forming the PMRescue list and putting up a small website.

At the time I had Four dogs for adoption that I rescued from a Missouri auction with the paid help of a Missouri resident.

In December 1999, I applied for non-profit status as a corporation in the State of Florida. And with the Federal Government.

We now consist of a small board of directors (5) and a team of about 20 people who help on a daily basis. Each is a volunteer, not one person is paid for her services to PMR, other than our accountant and lawyer.

We consider ourselves a Grass Roots organization.

Our rescuers and Board members and Foster Mom's are the backbone of PMR.

Without their dedication to these dogs, all would be lost.

They work, from their own homes, helping and loving back to health puppymill dogs who have been dumped by puppy millers who no longer have any use for them, or dogs we rescued by buying their freedom  a puppymill auction.

And so they........ the sore, pathetic, scared, shy, terrified bundles of fur are welcomed into our rescue and taken under our rescue angel's wings.

Our long term goal and dream is to own and run our own state-of-the-art sanctuary in Missouri in the midst of puppymill country.

We have come a long way and are very grateful to each and every person who has given of themselves to help over 2000 of these dogs get a wonderful forever home.

For the ones who cannot speak for themselves, I thank you all for your loyalty and support.

Sincerely,  Jean Kenney, Founder PuppymillRescue
